The Week(s) that Was the Avs 11/11-11/24

The Week(s) that was the Avs 11/11-11/17 and 11/18-11/24
vs. Calgary : The Avalanche came out poorly again, falling behind by at least 3 goals for the 3rd straight game. This time by the halfway point in the game they were down 4-0. The Avs didn’t start all that poorly I guess, doing a decent job to start but the Flames scored on their first two shots and led 2-0 just 6 minutes in and it got worse from there until it was too late. The Avs would push back and pull to within a goal but couldn’t get the equalizer. A failure to play a complete 60 minutes again costs the Avs points in the standings. Kipper gets his 9th straight win against the Avs and the team falls to the Flames for the 8th straight time.

The Week That Was the Avs 11/4-11/10

The Avalanche had a 1-3 record this past week. They play again at home Saturday before going on the road for a pair, then they are back home for a season long eight game home stand.

vs. Dallas : Father and mentor night in the big D where the role models for the Avalanche joined the team on the road trip. Quincey's assist in the 1st made it 12 straight games with an Avs defensemen getting at least a point. Duchene playing on Stastny's wing misses open net in final seconds of 1st so instead of up 3 they are up 2, but the team only gave up 3 shots in the first. In the second the Avs got in penalty trouble and fell behind as their penalty kill continued to struggle, however Duchene having said in an intermission interview that he'd like to make up for that miss scored again in the 2nd and the Avs came back. The third period would see Duchene score once again, his first career hat trick, but the Avs would lose the lead late again and we would go to Overtime tied at six. In overtime the Avalanche finally fell to another bad bounce. The game had tons of excitement, some great goals, some flukey goals, neither goalie was particularly good, and the Duchene on wing experiment was a success with Dutchy getting his first hat trick and adding an assist for his first four point game.

The Week That Was the Avs 10/28-11/3

The Avalanche went 1-2 this past week, with all three games being at home. Thus far in five games on Pepsi Center ice the Avs have been shut out once and held to only 1 goal 3 times. It certainly isn't what it takes to get it done at home.
