Past Meet Present - Turning Back

I've been pretty busy these last couple of weeks as I've taken on new and challenging roles in my job and as such my time for posting has suffered.  However I want to be sure to at least keep things going for the RPG recaps so that the players can continue to use it as a resource, and as I get settled into my new responsibilities I'll begin to post more again.

I do have a couple of posts that I would like to get done prior to the hockey season starting tomorrow, however we'll see if that happens.  For now though here is a quick recap of last week's game before we get into tonight's game.

We left off last week as Temeris jumped into the room filled with Orcus worshipers, and this week that is where we pick up.  The battle was hard fought, back and forth, with the worshippers using magics on the party to cause them to flee in fear for short periods of time and Balcoth only rarely stepping in to help.  In the end the party emerged victorious as Atvan recovered from the wound he had taken previously in time to help turn the fight in the Karameikan Fist's favor.

The fight wasn't without consequence though as Daisy had overdone it and had pulled a muscle in her back leaving her moving gingerly, and Shadow had been plagued by a disease placed upon her by the orc priest.  Along with a high fever she found herself battling fits of laughter which she could not control.

After deciding to give Shadow a day to rest and recover the locked themselves in a room while Bastion watched over what they discovered to be a hidden doorway which he thought would lead them to the temple below.  At the end of what they felt was a day's rest however Shadow seemed no better and the party was at a loss as to what to do.

They deliberated and determined that they couldn't continue like she was so they would either rest or retreat, and not wanting to retreat they decided to wait it out despite knowing that the guard would likely be changing at some point.

As another day passed, a large explosion was heard outside the door.  Not getting a reply from Bastion they peaked out the door to find him staring down the other side of the room where a pair of singed bodies lay.  Their time was up, and Shadow was not feeling any better.

They quickly decided that they should retreat and leave and began on their way as Balcoth went down the stairs after those that had fled.  As they stood Temeris decided he would follow, though Daisy grabbed him and began to carry him off.  However Temeris was slippery and escaped but Atvan was quick thinking and placed a ball of fire in the doorway.

Hearing Balcoth commanding an audience with someone below among other noises Temeris was torn but couldn't see a way to get past the fire.  Upset but defeated he resigned to returning where they first met Balcoth to wait a while before leaving the cavernous tombs.

They waited in the lair Balcoth had made home for a few hours but not having him return and worried about being overwhelmed by what is below they decided to leave despite protests by Temeris about leaving when they came so far and were so close.  However the rest of the party was unsure of what they could really do here so it was agreed that they would return to Shadowdale or Bastion, or both, and weigh their options.

Retreating and getting their Crispin statue, the party hauled all they had found up a sinkhole to where the rest of what they hid was.  As they got the last of it up and made their way back to the horses and Howler (whom Daisy was extremely excited to see), they sun of a new day rose above their heads and Shadow's fever broke.

What is being left behind, and what happened with the Drow priestess and with Balcoth?  What direction does the party take from here and what does the future hold for the Karameikan Fist?
