Past Meet Present - A Narrow Escape

Last week the Karameikan Fist found themselves caught in a trap and narrowly escaped.  It was hard fought and had the enemy used just a bit better decision making regarding the party's only escape route they likely would have eliminated the Karameikan Fist right then and there, however they didn't and while badly wounded with a few casualties, they did manage to retreat back into the tomb once again.  Again this week's recap (with a few minor tweaks) is done by Jeremy...

After a difficult battle and narrow escape, the party sets in to rest as they've been badly hurt from recent fights. Shadow, however, is determined to continue excavating the old rat tunnels and decides to use the lids of the nearby sarcophagi to help brace them. This provokes the ire of Corman, and the two almost come to blows before Daisy intervenes and loudly proclaims that she will "smuck" the next person to wake her up.

Although the bulk of the party remains trapped and under siege, Atvan has narrowly escaped the collapsing tunnels and made his way to the surface. While surveying the area, he sees a familiar face coming up the path: Crispin! When the two old traveling companions reunite, Crispin explains that Bastian arranged for him to be returned to flesh by speaking to a mysterious and quite wealthy woman in a carriage. Bastian told Crispin to travel at all possible speed to where the party was still fighting for the Earth Blood, and due to the lengthy series of running battles, he made it in time. By transforming into a massive badger, Atvan is able to dig a shaft from the surface down to the tombs of fallen priests of Tyr where the party is waiting. Although Temeris is suspicious of Crispin at first and suspects him of being a shape-changing spy, Daisy puts everyone at ease when she suggests that Crispin produce his ferret familiar, which he promptly does.

Later that night, Crispin speaks with Corman in an attempt to gain a less . . . "colorful" account of the situation than that provided by Temeris and the increasingly odd Shadow. Before any decisions can be made, however, voices outside the barred doors can be heard shouting of a surprise attack by the Zhentarim along with sounds of battle. The party decides to seize the moment and, although still hurt and with few spells, throws open the doors and ventures out, hoping to strike a decisive blow.

Daisy and Corman are the first to charge forward, and quickly seem to have two worshippers of Orcus on the run. They turn a corner, however, and soon realize it's a trap! The cunning head priest had faked the whole "surprise attack" to lure the party into a mistake, and they fell for it hook, line, and sinker. Daisy is soon staggered by a powerful ogre axe and decides to run back for the door which now has Orcus worshippers who hid and charged the back in front of it, although the others keep fighting. It's a tough and bloody battle, but soon the party counterpunches. Shadow fires arrows at a variety of attacks, Atvan summons giant eagles and other allies to his side, Temeris tries to guard the door after he and Daisy are able to fight back those gaurding it and flank invaders, Crispin fights with spells and his longsword, and Caullum relentlessly tries to kill as many ogres as he can. When the party is finally forced to retreat behind the bronze doors once again, Daisy is near death and the others are exhausted and badly hurt, while party ally Corman is dead and the captain of the men-at-arms hovers at death's door and two of his men are dead as well. Still, the party fought well given their initial blunder, as several enemy ogres and fighters have been destroyed but a number still stand including many of the clerics.

Caullum is stranded outside, but from his hiding place near where the wall and ceiling meets, he observes the head priest of Orcus ordering his men to bury the entryway behind collapsed rock, in the hopes of never seeing the Royal Karameikan Fist Adventuring Company again. Will his wish be granted or will the party venture forth yet again?
