How are a Raven and a Writing Desk Alike?

Recently we again watched Alice in Wonderland and again I really enjoyed it.  We first watched it at the theater some months ago in 3-D, a format that I really enjoy seeing movies in, and liked it then as well.

Everyone knows Alice and the story pretty much.  The movie is fun and enjoyable throughout and the characters are a joy to watch. I especially liked the performance of Helena Bonham Carter as the Red Queen and Mia Wasikowska as Alice but there weren't any performances that I disliked.  Visually I loved the movie.  The effects, the colors, the scenes created ... it was a huge success from the beginning to the end.  It did cross my mind though during the growing and shrinking why clothing growth and shrinking wasn't across the board, either all clothes grow or shrink or all don't ... but that's just one of those random thoughts that really don't have an effect on the movie that tend to pop up in my head from time to time.  (...and really, why would certain clothes grow and shrink and others wouldn't???)

If you can find a way to watch it in 3-D do so, it is worth it (and I would HIGHLY recommend seeing Avatar in 3-D if you ever get the chance and haven't yet ... stunning visuals and colors in that movie).  If you can't see it in 3-D it is still very, very worth watching in 2-D and can be enjoyed by any age group.

The second movie I'll comment on is "Stranger than Fiction."  This movie I saw flipping through Netflix last night and the name was familiar but I couldn't say why so I watched it.  The story is told as a writer in an airport waiting on a delayed flight tells of his new book to another man awaiting his flight.  It didn't take much imagination to figure out that he was one of the characters in the book.

The story basically was that of four friends, and one night one of those four killed a  man in "self defense".  Because he was about to become a lawyer they went about covering it up, but alas each step of the way something went wrong with their plans. In the end they cover it up (though one kills themselves), go their separate ways, and then the plot takes another twist showing that the remaining female was actually the cause of the death and was playing both guys (though I think she did care for one).  When this is found out she kills one, then is killed by the other who turns out to be the guy in the airport.

All in all it wasn't a horrible movie but it wasn't great either.  There were plot twists a plenty, some obvious, some not so obvious.  The characters were just kinda blah however and I never really cared for any of them and in the end didn't really care what happened to any of them.  The lack of characters that you really care about and a plot that just kinda moves along but doesn't give peaks and valleys or that drags you in leaves you with a movie that was ok but really could have been much better.  In the end it isn't one to avoid completely but it is one to skip if you have other options.
