A Vegas Wedding

In the first of a few posts that will touch on my recent Vegas trip, I'll begin with thoughts on my entire reason for going in the first place ... my wedding.  On the 28th of May of this year I married my love, Lisa, at the Little Church of the West in Las Vegas.

The Little Church of the West was a very nice, small place that was a pretty little location just south of the main strip. In going to Vegas I still wanted to avoid "cheese" and despite Elvis and Marylin showing up after our wedding to get married themselves, this location was a great location and provided a beautiful setting for our wedding.  The old look and feel of the building itself was completely different than most of what you would find in Vegas and was great for a wedding.

That being said there are certainly things to keep in mind should you ever choose a destination wedding for yourselves however.  One such thing is cost.  A location such as Vegas can be a costly choice for not only the wedding party but those attending as well.  Prices in Vegas are higher than most places and food, entertainment, and transportation will all add to the overall cost of your trip and wedding.  Often the cost and the time needed to travel may keep some people that you would hope to have there from attending.

Another such thing is that having a destination wedding will take away some of the time to do things at the destination.  At least the day of the event those traveling, including the wedding party, will be occupied by the event itself and as such will lose that "vacation" day to the event and will have little time for site-seeing or shows.  For many this will be a non-issue as the event itself is the big occasion that everyone is there for anyway, but it is worth mentioning.  For a bride and groom who wish to see everyone arrive and see everyone off it will also take away time for them to do that as well.

Getting around is another thing worth commenting on.  In Vegas especially it can take a good amount of time to get from place to place.  Transportation can become costly and takes time, but one could walk miles per day if they choose to do so as well.  This could be an issue for older people attending and is worth keeping in mind.  It is also a good idea to get everyone in one hotel if possible because even when parties are in "nearby" hotels that can still involve a good amount of walking between locations.

All in all I had an incredible time, and I was extremely happy that those that could make it did and wish others could as well, and I now have my love legally bound as my wife for life as well.  Vegas was a lot of fun and I'll likely talk more about that later.  For those looking at a destination wedding, you may want to look at an all inclusive resort somewhere ... however Vegas is certainly an option as well and I would recommend the Little Church of the West if you are going to choose Vegas.
